Prof. Fabian T. Pfeffer, Ph.D.

Diese Veranstaltung ist Teil der Veranstaltungsreihe „Cluster Talk“.

Scholarship on wealth has produced three basic insights: Inequality in wealth is particularly large, it is partly independent of other dimensions of socio-economic well-being, and it exerts independent effects on the opportunities of the next generation. This talk presents recent and new findings that affirm these insights: It shows that national levels of wealth inequality are much higher than and unrelated to national levels of income inequality. It also documents the crucial intergenerational role of wealth. Finally, it argues that the study of housing should take up a central place in scholarship on wealth as housing equity drives both overall levels of wealth inequality and its intergenerational effects.

Fabian Pfeffer is Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Sociology and Research Associate Professor at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. He serves as the Director of the Center for Inequality Dynamics (CID) as well as Co-Investigator of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID). His research investigates social inequality and its maintenance across time and generations. Current projects focus on wealth inequality and its consequences for the next generation, social mobility across multiple generations, the maintenance of inequality through education, and the effects of experiencing social mobility.

The discussion will take place on Zoom, all Cluster members will receive a link by email. If you are not a member of the Cluster, you can request the link by email at methodshub@uni-konstanz.de.
