Does more diversity in the classroom also mean more tolerance?

A study from the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz examines whether diversity in the classroom leads to greater tolerance among school students. The findings reveal that this is not the case for every classroom constellation.

New paper on gender inequality in academia

Thomas Hinz and Susanne Strauss, Principal Investigators of the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality”, have published a paper on gender inequality and academic performance in Germany. Co-author of the study “Discrimination or a Competitive Climate? Why Women Cannot Translate Their Better High School Grades into University Grades” is Diana Roxana Galos from the University of Copenhagen.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in the modern working world. But how widespread is AI actually in German companies, and how do employees view this development? Are they rather worried or optimistic? These questions are examined in a new policy paper from the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz. Inspired by the topic of the paper, this press release was written with the help of AI.

Policies towards Indigenous groups and perceptions of inequality

Fabian Bergmann, PhD student at the cluster of excellence “The Politics of Inequality”, has recently published a paper in the interdisciplinary journal “Politics, Groups, and Identities”. The article is part of his doctoral research, which examines the effects of state policy on the political and social situation of Indigenous groups. His current publication explores how policies influence the perceptions of inequality in Sweden and Norway.

The In_equality Conference 2024 proved to be an exceptional gathering for international and interdisciplinary researchers, providing a dynamic platform for vibrant discussions and the exchange of innovative ideas in the field of inequality research. With more than 500 participants representing over 50 countries, both on-site and online, the conference fostered a global dialogue on inequality.

The influence of non-regulatory factors on asylum decisions

Study by researchers from the Nuremberg Institute for Employment Research (IAB), the University of Konstanz and the University of Bamberg concludes that the chances of obtaining asylum in a specific region depend upon how sceptical of migration its population and government are.

In Germany, women earn an average of 18 percent less than their male colleagues. Over one year, this is the equivalent of women working for free until 6 March 2024 (Equal Pay Day).
