This event is part of an event series „Methods Hub Training“.
The training workshops offered by the Methods Hub are complementary to the existing methodological courses at the University of Konstanz, both in terms of content and format. This means that they are usually short and applied. Ideally, an application example is worked through step by step with the participants.
Intro to R (Philipp Kling)
R is a software environment for statistical computing and data visualization. As it is open source and there is almost no statistical analysis you cannot do with R, it has become one of the most important tools for data analysis in the social sciences.
In this Methods Appetizer, we will give you a hands-on introduction of R for the social sciences. This short introduction will show you how to set up the environment for you to be productive and to be able to perform all necessary tasks of data preparation, analysis, and visualization. We will provide an introduction to an exemplary workflow that shows how to load, process, and analyze basic datasets as well as a brief use case showing how to scrape data from the Internet.
This Methods Appetizer is aimed at researchers, who are familiar with other packages for statistical analysis but have, so far, not been able to get to know R. It is also intended as a primer for the Workshop on “Data Visualization” by Richard Traunmüller that takes place in December.
