Between Twitter and Conferences: Gaining Visibility as a Researcher (Roundtable discussion)
Doing excellent research alone does not necessarily suffice. Research has to be visible to make an impact. Researchers can employ different strategies, ranging from conference presentations to the promotion of their work on social media. If you want to pursue a career in academia, you also have to establish yourself as an independent researcher with expertise for specific topics. Our roundtable brings together researchers from different backgrounds to discuss different strategies to gain the relevant visibility as a researcher. Participating discussants will be Sebastian Findeisen (Economics), Annette Hautli-Janisz (Linguistics), Daniel Thym (Law), and Kris-Stella Trump (Political Science), chair will be Nils Röper. The roundtable aims at young researchers interested in questions such as:
How important are conference presentations? What role does social media play for the promotion of my research? What are reviewers for research grants/search committees for senior positions looking for in my CV? On how many topics and with whom should I publish?
