Gaining first insights on pūkeko movement and space use

Studying a species movement and space use is key to understanding individual, group- and population level processes. In this pilot project, we aim to generate critical insights on the movement and space use patterns of pūkeko (Porphyrio melanotus), with regard to their social and physical environment. We will record and analyze the movement and space-use patterns of 2–3 birds in 2 groups of pūkeko. This will allow us to generate testable hypothesis on the mechanism of grouping and the evolutionary underpinnings of the specie's social flexibility.
