Our Research Objectives

At CASCB, we address research questions from the whole spectrum of collective behaviour across species and environments by interconnecting behavioural, physiological, neural, ecological, and technological studies of collective phenomena. We aim to provide fundamental insights and knowledge about collective behaviour within and across disciplines, and to utilise these insights to develop new design principles for human-engineered systems. Our research is structured around 3 synergistic Research Areas and pursues the following research objectives:

  • Deepening our understanding of the principles guiding collective behaviour.
  • Revealing the mechanisms of social influence, transmission, synchronisation (Area A).
  • Revealing collective functions such as sensing and decision-making (Area B).
  • Advancing the quantitative investigation of collectives (Area C).
  • Addressing real-world problems (Areas A-C).
