PhD fellowship for Katja Slangewal
Katja Slangewal, doctoral student at the Univeristy of Konstanz, has been awarded the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds PhD fellowship
The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds PhD fellowship will support Katja Slangewal's research on decision-making of larval zebrafish. For the member of the Doctoral Network of the Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour it is “an ideal model organism to dissect neural circuits”. During her project the neurobiologist aims to obtain a detailed mechanistic understanding on how the brain integrates multiple sources of visual information to form decisions.
“Integrating various sources of information to form decisions is a major, if not the main, function of our brain”, states Slangewal. “However, we only have a rough understanding of the underlying neuronal processes in specific contexts. How exactly the brain integrates and combines different sources of information, and which neural computations are necessary for this process, is not well understood.”
