The Biology Department at the University of Konstanz is offering an introductory course in R programming language called "R for Biologists I," The course will take place in November (25th-29th) at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour in Möggingen/Radolfzell.

This course will allow for one week of intense introduction in R a powerful opensource programming environment widely used in scientific research. It will begin by explaining how we can wrok with R to make our lives as biologists from a wider range of subdisciplines easier. Consequently, we undestand how data can be mined, rearranged and basic visualisations made. This is not a statistics course, it is intended to give a general all purpose introduction in R, from where further exploration can be achieved without the usually steep initial learning curve.

The course is registered with the courses of the Uni KN and rewarded with 2 ECTS points for those who want a currency and are willing to fulfill the requirements of obtaining them by investing a week of Nacharbeit.

The course is suitable for anyone who would like to learn the R programming language, and is not restricted to Biology students. While some of the examples used in the course come from the field of biology, this doesn't hinder following the lessons for students without a biology background.
