Konstanz Workshop on Quantitative Imaging and Analysis of Behaviour
Time
Friday, 6. April 2018
9:00 - 17:00
Location
University of Konstanz, Z816
Organizer
Prof. Iain Couzin
Speaker:
Prof. Nassir Navab, Technical University of Munich
In line with its highly quantitative approach to research, the Department of Collective Behaviour (MPIO and Konstanz) aims to train scientists in building bridges from technological, computational and mathematical domains to the study of behaviour.
This effort is gaining momentum, with an interdisciplinary Master’s course in computational modelling, a quantitative field course run on the Mediterranean—and an ongoing collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Since 2017, the Department of Collective Behaviour has been partnering with TUM—drawing on TUM’s world-leading expertise in developing computational techniques for medicine in order to advance the use of computer vision, deep learning, and visualisation for the study of collective behaviour. An advanced seminar course on the topic of Computer Vision in Animal Behaviour Studies was launched last year.
Now, the institutions are teaming up again, this time for a Workshop on Quantitative Imaging and Analysis of Behaviour, held in Konstanz on April 6, 2018. The goal of the workshop will be to unite experts from the behavioural sciences—including neurobiology, social psychology, behavioural economics—and computational sciences—including computer vision and visualisation—in order to advance knowledge and ignite collaboration on the topic of imaging and analysis for the study of behaviour.
The visiting TUM team will be the Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP), a group that aims to develop specific imaging and visualisation methods to assist surgeries and medical interventions. The CAMP team will comprise Prof. Nassir Navab (Chair), Dr. Federico Tombari (head of computer vision/deep learning group) and four PhD students. They will be joined by members from both the Collective Behaviour and Migration and Immuno-Ecology departments of MPIO, as well as faculty from the University of Konstanz.
The workshop will begin with a tour of the Imaging Barn in MPIO Radolfzell, followed by a workshop at the University of Konstanz (Z816).
Due to space restrictions, attendance to the workshop is by invitation only. Please contact Prof Iain Couzin if you would like to join.
