Joan Strassmann and David Queller will give talks in the Animal Sociality Seminar on "Kin selection, relatedness and conflict in the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum" & "Conflict and molecular arms races in cooperative systems"

Professor Strassmann’s work investigates cooperative alliances that have occurred at several important steps in the evolution of life, and have proven evolutionarily and ecologically very successful. Studying how these alliances came to be, how conflicts are subsumed into cooperation, what conflicts remain, and how they influence sociality comprise her dominant research interests.

Professor Queller is interested in how cooperation and altruism evolve, with questions ranging from the genetic and molecular details of cooperation in social amoebas up to the nature of organisms.
