Collective Movement in a Population of Wild Verreaux's Sifaka
Collectives are shaped by interactions within the group, with neighboring groups, and with their ecology. I examine these dynamics in a population of Verreaux's sifaka, a social lemur that resides in small ephemeral groups with considerable intergroup contact and gene flow. Using high resolution GPS tracking of whole groups, I investigate how collective movement is influenced by information flow between groups and seasonal fluctuations in resources.
Tracy Montgomery got her PhD at Michigan State University studying affiliation and cooperation in spotted hyenas in the lab of Dr. Kay Holekamp. She is now a postdoc in the EAS department at MPI-AB.
